X3D Examples Library

                   

A new examples library is now available at GitHub. Most of them are found on the Internet and are provided »as is«. They run fine with the latest version of Titania and Cobweb. We collected a lot of examples from simple to advanced worlds. If you want to download a single sub-directory you can use GitHub's svn support:

svn export https://github.com/create3000/Library/trunk/Examples/Astronomy

Copy and paste the line above into a terminal and replace the sub-directory with the directory of your choice. But now, have fun with watching and listening!

System Requirements

  • Titania requires at least Ubuntu 15.10 (Wily)
  • 1024 MB RAM
  • Monitor resolution of at least 1280 × 1024 pixels
  • A modern graphics card
  • Official graphics card driver from NVIDIA or ATI if possible

Debian/Ubuntu Stable Version

Titania is available for Debian and all flavours of Ubuntu on Launchpad via ppa. You can install Titania by pasting the following lines into a terminal:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:create3000/titania
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install titania

Arch Linux User Repository

Since it is sometimes a bit tricky to compile titania successfully on other Linux systems than Ubuntu, there is a package of the latest version of Titania available for AUR, the Arch Linux User Repository which should simplify the process for you:

AUR packages are specific for the Arch Linux distribution. They are not precompiled, they are more or less simply a script that downloads the source code, installs all dependencies and executes the commands to compile and install the software.

Install from Source

If you want to compile Titania from source, first make sure that all dependencies listed in »debian/control« are installed. Then type the following commands in a terminal:

git clone https://github.com/create3000/titania.git
cd titania
./autogen.sh
make -j4
make run

Note: »make -j4« compiles the project with four jobs at the same time, ie. it uses four processors. Adjust this value depending on the number of processors of your computer.  It can take 20 up to 45 minutes or longer to compile the whole project.

Install GPU drivers

You want the best performance from your device you’re going to want to install graphics drivers. These will make Titania run smoothly and let you get the best frame-rates.

Ubuntu supports most graphics hardware out of the box using free, open-source drivers. These are getting better all the time.

Source Code

First a word of warning: Using the development version of Titania might be risky in that it can break anytime, kill your edits, eat your kittens or do other nasty things.
